As a Barlean's Blogger, I was compensated for writing this post. All thoughts and opinions are all mine.
We all have them. Each and every one of us. They are filled with great ideas and dreams. They are the Pinterest boards with names like "DIY Projects" or "Homemade Christmas Gifts." Yet, if you're like me, a better name for them would be something like "Things I Want To Make, But Never Do."
You see, having a natural crafty type of talent is not me. A lot of the projects I have tried in the past have never really worked out very well. Yet, every once and a great while, I find a project that looks easy enough to make. One that even I'm not scared to give it a try. One that I can't even mess up.
Healthy Homemade Holiday Gifts ~ Barleans Coconut Oil Hand Scrubs
Being easy to make is of course the first thing that I look for in a DIY project. The second thing I look for though, is what kind of ingredients it contains. If it's a beauty type product and has toxic or artificial ingredients in it.. I won't be making that.
That's why I LOVED learning how to make these All Natural Hand Scrubs.
The original recipes I saw online called for olive oil, but I decided to be a little adventurous and try using my favorite coconut oil instead.
With just a few simple, natural ingredients I was able to create a really great holiday gift. It smelled amazing and they looked adorable.
Coffee and Peppermint Goes Postal
I decided to make two different hand scrubs and give them to our mail lady as a holiday gift. It seems like she's always dealing with paper and boxes, therefore I figured her hands could use a little pampering.
Wrapping them up with fun ribbon and adding a gift certificate to a local coffee store was so much fun. We've talked often of her love for a good cup of coffee, so not only will she be able to enjoy a few cups of coffee on us, but she can also have a fun coffee scrub at home.

Quick and Easy to Make
The recipes for these hand scrubs are so simple.
When used, the scrubs seem feel like a very extravagant gift, but are made with simple and pure ingredients.
Peppermint Hand Scrub
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar (regular white sugar works best)
- Red Food Coloring - I used an all natural brand
- 1 cup of Barlean's Coconut Oil - melted
- 3 drops peppermint essential oils
Directions
Separate sugar into two bowls, with one cup of sugar in each.
Place a few drops of food coloring to one bowl and mix until desired color is reached.
Add peppermint oil drops to melted coconut oil and stir to mix. Pour 1/2 cup coconut oil into each bowl and mix thoroughly.
Alternate sugar into air tight container. Red first then white and then red again.
Coffee Hand Scrub
Ingredients
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of coffee grounds ( can use flavored coffee for different smell)
- 1 cup of Barlean's Coconut Oil - Melted
Directions
Place coffee grounds and sugar in separate bowls.
Pour melted coconut oil in moth and mix thoroughly.
Combined coffee and sugar together and mix till well blended.
Place in air tight container.

Oh my gosh, you are so sweet! I bet your mail lady LOVED receiving that gift! I made a big batch of preserved lemons and slow cooker candied nuts this year and gave them out to all of my coworkers!

ReplyDeleteYes. Try it. They are SUPER easy. The coffee ones are fun. I did learn though, that a plain coffee one can be a bit strong- so add essential oils or used flavored coffee.
ReplyDeleteYes! I kept a little to the side for me too ;-). It was so nice. LoL.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Ellie what a great idea!! I used to make homemade gifts all the time when my girls were younger, but have gotten away from it. I really want to pick up my game with it come 2017.
