How To Make Cold Brew Coffee | It's Easier Than You Think

As you already know, I am a huge lover of all things coffee. Hot coffee, cold coffee, and yes, even coffee cupcakes. I can make a mean cup of coffee in the morning and some delicious cupcakes, but when it comes to cold brew....well, that was a different story. I, for some reason, thought that making cold brew was some big deal. Lots of steps and lots of equipment.

Until the other day.. I decided to give it a try and found out.. it was a lot easier then I thought.

It Take Just Two Ingredients

Sometimes the most amazing things take the simplest of ingredients.

I knew a good sandwich often just takes a good organic peanut butter, some gluten-free bread, and some fresh sliced strawberries, but I never thought cold brew would be that simple.

Make Sure They Are Two GOOD Ingredients

The Water

Making homemade cold brew can be easy, yet you want to make sure that you have really good ingredients.

One of the ingredients for a good cold brew is water. Now, I know what you may be thinking.. isn't water... water? Well, yes in one way it is, but I would suggest, when shooting for a good cold brew.. use filtered water.

At our home, out water comes from a well system. My water tastes great, but I know there are some metals and possible chemicals in the there, so I like to make sure I run the water through the filter first.

If you are a city line, or just want to make sure you are using really great water, I would suggest possibly using spring water or distilled water. Either of these would work.

The water you use in your cold brew may not effect the taste all that much, but if you are going to through with the process of making your own coffee, why not use the best ingredients you can.

The Coffee

I never really used to be a coffee snob. Though now, as I learn more and try more and more coffee, I have found that there really IS a difference in price, taste, and brand.

To make a great tasting cold brew, I would suggest making sure you find a really great coffee. To get the most flavor and experience, it is really important to choose a good coffee.

I have a few favorites myself. Some are from a local roaster, but for this cold brew I used Equal Exchange.

Over the past few years, I have purchased Equal Exchange. Not only do they have some great coffee, but they also a Fair Trade company. I know that 'fair trade' has gotten a bad rap lately, but Equal Exchange is really trying to stay true to their roots and making sure all their growers are being treated and paid well.

So whether your favorite coffee is from a local roaster or from a local store, make sure you pick a flavorful blend to get a great tasting cold brew.
