Well, not really. I just thought I'd throw that out there to get your attention. So now that I have it, let me tell you about how you can make chickpeas taste like tuna salad.. and it's pretty darn easy.. and amazing.

Learning To Love New Ingredients
I grew up eating the regular American diet. Eggs, oatmeal, and toast in the morning. PB&J on white bread for lunch, and meatloaf and potatoes for dinner. That was a normal day for me as a kid.
Yet, now that I'm a grown up and my diet and taste buds have changed, I am having so much fun being more adventurous with my cooking. Finding new ingredients to try and new ways of using ingredients I never thought I'd eat, has opened up a whole new world to me.. food wise.
Chickpeas ~ The Wonder Bean
I knew that beans are good for me. They are packed with fiber, protein, lots of vitamins and they help me feel full when eating a meal. Yet, I didn't know how versatile these little powerhouses were.
Beyond just a topping on salads or ingredient in soups, these little guys have become a staple in my veggie burgers, 'meatball' substitutes, and now my tuna fish.
Yup, I said it. Chickpeas in my tuna fish.

The Making of a Really Great Salad
The first time I made this 'mock' tuna salad I had my husband taste test it. He had NO idea that I was making a 'mock' version, so when I asked him what tasted different about this 'tuna salad', he took another bite and asked if I was using a different type of relish.
After a few more test bites and failed guesses, he gave up trying to seek what the difference was.
When I told him that there was actually NO TUNA FISH in this 'tuna salad' , he just starred at me and said "are you kidding me?"
It was at that very moment that I not only knew I had found a pretty awesome recipe, but that I had my husband hooked on this whole 'plant-based' eating thing.
The True Source - The Happy Herbivore
Now I did not come up with recipe on my own. I am not that talented. But, I did have the opportunity awhile back to review The Happy Herbivore cookbook and that is where I stumbled upon her recipe.
I would have NEVER had thought to put chickpeas, KELP POWDER (I didn't even know there was such a thing), and other bunch of other ingredients together to make such an amazing substitution.
It's easy, it's quick, and since the first time I made it, I can honestly say it has become THE tuna fish recipe in my home.
No need to open any metal cans of yucky fish and worry about where it came from. I just drain a can or two of chickpeas, mix in all the tasty additions, and VOILA.. delicious.. yummy.. Not So Tuna Tuna Salad.
Side Note - The Most Important Ingredient
You can find just about all the ingredients at your local store, but you may not be able to find the Kelp powder that easily. Finding the Kelp powder is really important (at least in my opinion) because it is what give the salad the 'fishy' taste.
You can either click on the links I have included here, or stop by your local natural market and ask if they carry any.
I keep my Kelp powder in a mason jar and it seems to last quite awhile. The amount you use in the recipe is small, so a little goes a long way.
On To The Not So Perfect Housewife Version
Over the past few years that I have been making this, I have tweaked it a little to suit our tastes.
Although I really haven't swayed too far from the original, I seem to always double the recipe because it goes very quickly once it's made.
