Trail Mix Smoothie Bowl ~ You'll Want To Make Extra!

So many of my recipes come totally by accident in my kitchen.

I don't consider myself a chef or recipe creator in any way. I just start throwing ingredients together that I find interesting, and if I'm lucky, something delicious comes about.

Smoothie Bowl recipes are always fun to play around with. With some basic ingredients like bananas and yogurt, you can add all kinds of different ingredients to create a delicious and healthy breakfast.

A Healthy Way To Get The Day Started

My go to for breakfast is usually just a simple bowl of oatmeal. Nothing too special. I'll sprinkle some coconut sugar on top and add a few cranberries, but that's usually about it.

But then there are those mornings where I just want something with a little extra "Let's Do This" kick to it.

I try to stay away from packing to much sugar into my mornings. Whether it's natural sugars from fruits or nut butters, sugars can spike and then cause a crash for me come lunch time. Making sure I get a good dose of protein is also important. I want to be on a good even rhythm by the time lunch time comes around and this helps.

The Right Ingredients Matter

The other day I received a really cool package with some delicious ingredients from Woodstock and Stonyfield. Inside the box were samples of Woodstock's Organic Smooth Almond Unsalted Almond Butter, some Hikers Harvest Trail Mix, and Lemon Almonds.

Now, I am a HUGE fan of almond butter. I don't eat it a lot, but I do love to add it to smoothies (as you'll see) and make killer AB&J sandwiches.

Each one of these samples looked delicious. They were also organic, which of course, made me very happy.

I immediately busted open the Lemon Almonds. I had never heard of Lemon Almonds before and knew I had to try them. I was thinking they were going to taste really strange, but honestly, they are really good. Surprisingly refreshing and tasty as an afternoon snack.

The Making Of A Smoothie Bowl

I, of course, snacked on the trail mix right away too. Though, it wasn't too soon after I had a couple handfuls of the trail mix, that I knew I wanted to create something different with this. What would it be though? I wasn't sure right away.

The next morning, I woke up and walked into the kitchen. That's when I saw the almond butter and trail mix sitting on the counter. That's when I knew I was going to do one of my 'experimental' recipe creations.

I gathered up all the necessary ingredients, grabbed my mini blender, and said a quick prayer for a yummy outcome.

And wouldn't you know it... it worked.. in a beautiful, healthy, delicious way it worked!

  5. I've never heard of a smoothie bowl. What a great idea! I'll have to show this to my daughter. My kids aren't big smoothie drinkers, but she might like this since she gets to add toppings that don't get blended into the smoothie. Thanks!

  10. Thanks Anegela. Let me know what you think. You can also reduce the almond butter amount to 1/4 cup if it's too rich.
